A Daughter of the People edition by L i n d a L D a v i s Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I liked this well enough to feel I needed to do a review. It's a very good story, and I felt like it gave a good view of what it might have been like in the mid 1800’s. Well worth reading.
I enjoyed the story, however there were a few areas in the book that didn't flow well, There was one chapter that I actually thought was out of order Overall, there was allot going on in the plot and I did enjoy the story
I enjoyed this book. Sarah always said, "The heart knows what the mind can't understand." The story is a great tribute to the author's grandmother.
So happy Sarah and little Alma Rose found each other. It certainly wasn't an easy life back then.
I liked the first half of the book better than the last. I thought it was more interesting with Sarah. Once Abby is on her own, everything seems so "coincidental" and you basically know what's going to happen.
Liked this read about a single woman raising a daughter by herself in the 1850's. A few cowboys and Indians, heartbreak and hard work in this page turning story. Like this author.
Detailed descriptive narrative, well fleshed out characters,, colorful scenes, exciting events, respectful depiction of the groups of people, sweet romances, justice delivered to despicable villains, happy ending...a satisfying re a d.
It was wonderful to little Alma Rose grow up. Actually all the main characters seemed to be people searching for someone - sometimes not connecting, sometimes finding something else, sometimes finding something prohibited. These people on the prairie are so resourceful and endure many hardships.
Great story. We were reading it in 20 minute segments (the time it takes to ice down my foot) and it was always hard to put the book down when time came. The descriptions are vivid, the character development is great, story line is compelling. The consensual sexual content was poetically written. The other sexual content was appropriately horrifying with out being graphic. I would recommend this book to anyone from Young Adult on up.
