Six months after strange messages lead David Chance through a gauntlet of lies and terror, they are back—this time drawing him unwillingly into a murder mystery involving an elusive teen with a mysterious gift.

Jon Blake is a troubled teen with faint aspirations of escaping Boston and attending college, but when the voices in his head save his life and begin revealing hidden secrets, he finds himself lured into a national conspiracy involving the FBI and powerful businessmen.

These two lives, guided by unknown forces, weave together in unexpected twists toward one inescapable conclusion.

VOICES The David Chance Series Book 2 eBook John Michael Hileman

I got started on the David Chance Trilogy by obtaining the first book for free. While the premise of the main character receiving messages from God via words he sees, it is fiction and I've read stories based on things just as strange. The first book ended well. Book 2 Voices is a prep book for Book 3 Lies. When you finish the book, you really need to read Book #3 to fill in all the missing pieces. Book 3 Lies finishes the series. Book 2 bridges the bond between David and Jon as they are trapped in a building together for days and survive.

The book follows David Chance who receives messages from God and Jon Blake who hears voices that are demonic in their nature. It's a classic good vs. evil series. The voices want to take total control of Jon Blake and continually lead him down this path. Much of the book focuses on how the voices take Jon down a dark path with promises of riches and fame.

I gave these books 3 stars because of the ending. I wish John Hileman would have added about 100 more pages and more fully developed the ending. In a very short period of time, after an encounter with David Chance, Jon finally "sees the light" and prevents evil from going forth with their plan. But what cold have been a very detailed ending was wrapped up in 2 pages.

I enjoyed the tribology, but one read was enough for me.

VOICES The David Chance Series Book 2 eBook John Michael Hileman Reviews

A bit confusing at times to decipher the identity and motive of the voices Jon hears, but enough story teaser of details to keep readers coming back to find out what happens next. Ending was a bit rushed, with more development of David's connection to Jon hoped for. The implication David's wife also sees messages is something I hope is clarified and/or developed in the next installment. The clash of plot tension with the airline incident was woven well into the story, bringing several story elements together. Some character development (passenger spreading the chemical) needed here too. Mystery and suspicion still shroud the case of the voices, leaving me ready to find out more in the next book. Thanks - a good read overall!
I liked this book. It may have been better if I had read the first one but still, this was a good book. David Chance is a young man who receives messages from God from different printed materials. David will look at signs, newspapers or books and certain words will jump out at him which he will string together to form a message. Across town there is another young man who is beginning to receive messages but these are in the form of voices in his head. These voices lead him to do things and go places where he wil end up in some sticky situations. David is sent to help this young man out and the whole book is a dance between the two trying to get together. The book ends in a way that you will want to continue in the series but it also gives you enough closure that if you are unable to move to the next book you will not go crazy. Right now I am so behind on books to read that it will be awhile before I get to book three. This is a quick easy read with good characters and heart touching moments. You will enjoy this book. I put this on my Christian shelf, not because there is an overt message of God but because of the theme, feel and language. There is no foul language and no graphic violence so this book could be enjoyed by various ages. If you pick this book up - prepare to be hooked. There, I warned you.
I enjoyed the first book in this series more than I thought I would. It was listed as a Christian book. I had a little bit of trouble with that but not much. Voices, on the other hand, seems more of a paranormal read. The only thing "Christian" is David's belief that God is still speaking to him through messages. I did not enjoy this book and it wasn't only because of the paranormal theme (I don't read paranormal books). It jumped around way too much. There was really no depth to the story. I know that I'm in the minority but I tell it like I see it. I felt the whole story was a teaser for the next book. If the paranormal theme continues, I will not be reading any more of Mr. Hileman's books.
Enjoyed the first novel "Messages" and when this, the second in the series, was announced, I was looking forward to the read. It generated no emotion or interest in the plot or characters one way or the other. I found the main character to have regressed mentally and emotionally, especially considering he saved an entire city in book One. Too immature, wimpy and whiny for my tastes. Grow up David Chance. Develop a spine. He wasn't a teen you know. He was supposed to be am educated adult, married with a family and a job. I found the final chapters to be hastily put together, as in... I've written more than enough, so let me wrap this up quickly because dinner is ready and after the meal I can begin the 3rd book.

Police matter of factly discussing aliens, extraterrestrials voices, voice control, violence, murder, messages from God ... with no more wonder, questions or interest than reading the take out menu for lunch at the station? Not convincing.

Plane crash? Why? Late-in-the-story-new-characters, why? Development of these individuals - none. Purpose? Who knows. I had no feeling for any of them, just total strangers strung together and an unsatisfactory ending. Had to re-read the last 2 chapters just to prove to myself I did not miss something key of importance or substance the first time. No, I did not miss anything.

Will I give the 3rd in the series a try? Don't think so. A no charge price is always appreciated, but there was no interest generated or curiosity peaked to make me spend any money to see what might be offered in the 3rd. Might like my time back though for wasting it on this mess. Kept thinking sooner or later a real story of interest and importance would emerge and develop, but it didn't.
